Last Tuesday, we were excited to visit the hot new Taco Boy location in Charleston. We didn’t quite know what to expect as we drove down Huger Street, but lo and behold, there stood the Taco Boy restaurant in all of its glory, like a Mexican oasis among worn, broken down buildings!

The decor of the restaurant is funky, fresh and all things south of the border. There is also a lot of available seating, indoors and outdoors, and bar seats (pretty sure there is more seating than at the Folly Taco Boy). We were seated promptly, and unable to resist anything crunchable that one can dip into something tasty, we ordered the Trio of Salsas, along with a Chicken Taco, an “Abrero” or vegetarian Taco, a Carne Asada Taco and a Tuna Taco. We ordered some rice, and it was well, rice. Not too exciting. Our faves were definitely the Carne Asada Taco and the Chicken Taco. Delish!

The ingredients are fresh and while Mexican, not as heavy as a traditional Mexican meal can be. The wait staff were all friendly and happy to help, and though our visit went a tad beyond lunchtime (which is normal for a restaurant that’s been open only a week ), we didn’t mind hanging around a little longer.

Tip: Indulge in a Mango Margarita (it’s five o’clock somewhere, right?), and definitely try the salsas.
